On 17 February, Professor Eugene CH’NG (FSA) was formally accepted as an Expert Member of CIPA Heritage Documentation. Professor CH’NG is the Dean of the School of Culture and Creativity at Beijing Normal–Hong Kong Baptist University, Director of the BNBU Centre for Computational Culture and Heritage | NVIDIA DLI, and XR Chair for SIGGRAPH Asia 2026. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London (FSA). There are currently 149 CIPA-HD Expert Members worldwide, of whom only six are based in mainland China.

CIPA is one of the most influential international organisations in the field of cultural heritage documentation and digital preservation. It advances scientific and technological methods for documenting heritage, including:

CIPA 2025, Seoul
CIPA Heritage Documentation is an important international academic platform jointly supported by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing). While ICOMOS focuses on global heritage conservation policy and practice, ISPRS represents the forefront of photogrammetry and geospatial measurement science. As their joint scientific committee, CIPA is dedicated to advancing research and international collaboration in heritage documentation and digital recording.

Expert Membership is awarded to scholars and professionals who demonstrate sustained, high-level achievement in the surveying, scientific recording, and digital documentation of cultural heritage.
As an Expert Member of CIPA-HD, Professor CH’NG will participate in the election and advisory oversight of the Executive Committee, attend Executive Committee meetings during symposia, support the scientific review of conference submissions, and assist in newsletter, dissemination, and outreach activities.

The conferment of this Expert Membership recognises Professor CH’NG’s more than two decades of internationally funded research and academic activities in digital heritage, archaeology, XR, artificial intelligence, and computational heritage science. His projects span the United Kingdom, Europe, Malaysia, and China. As a computer scientist and engineer bridging frontier XR and AI communities with heritage documentation practice, Professor CH’NG continues to contribute actively to international conferences, standards discussions, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He has stated that he will continue contributing to the advancement of global heritage science documentation.
