The “2026 Academic Conference of the Voice Specialty Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine,” initiated by the Greater Bay Area Medical and Artistic Voice Alliance, was held from 22 to 24 May at the Lihu Campus of Shenzhen University. Experts and scholars from institutions including the Central Conservatory of Music, China Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, South China University of Technology, and Shenzhen Technology University, as well as specialists from the international voice medicine community, attended the conference. As one of the founding member institutions of the alliance, the School of Culture and Creativity of Beijing Normal–Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) was invited to send representatives to participate in the event.
Artistic expression relies on healthy vocal function, while scientific vocal training depends upon medical support. With the goal of promoting the deep integration of “voice medicine” and “artistic voice,” the conference focused on topics including “Traditional Artistic Voice Training and AI-Assisted Pedagogical Innovation” and “The Practical Application of Collaborative Medical–Artistic Mechanisms in Arts Education and Vocal Health Management.” Outstanding papers were selected for featured conference presentations. Associate Professor Jie Wang, Associate Head of the Music Department of the School of Culture and Creativity, presented her paper entitled “The Application and Practice of ‘Medical–Artistic Collaboration’ in University Vocal Pedagogy” as one of the conference’s selected featured presentations.
The conference was hosted by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine and organised by institutions including the Shenzhen University Center for Voice Medicine and Artistic Voice Innovation Research. To encourage innovation and practice in the field of artistic voice, the conference also featured a special forum entitled “The Artistic Realm of Voice: Speech Arts and Rehabilitation.” Vocal artists from leading conservatories and universities engaged in face-to-face discussions with voice medicine experts from China and abroad, jointly exploring and advancing the unique role and innovative development of medical–artistic integration within the field of music and performing arts.
