Multisensory Participatory Interactive Installation

Boarding is an immersive interactive installation. Through on-site ffeldwork on the artist’s home island of Qushan in Zhejiang, and through the integration of diverse materials, a walkable “cabin space” is constructed. Viewers begin by “boarding” — pressing a counting button to complete the embarkation ritual — and may freely trigger eight dialect buttons to listen to the hidden linguistic gaps between two generations of Qushan Islanders. Accompanied by acrylic paintings of island imagery and a two-channel documentary, the work seeks to grant this isolated island a moment of remembrance in more people’s memory.
