The Scenery of Kurdening is a series of twelve oil paintings based on fieldwork in Kurdening, Xinjiang, in the summer of 2025. Moving beyond conventional landscape painting, the work captures the “daily sacredness” often overlooked by tourist imagery: misty paths, prayer flags beside abandoned yurts, and the silent gaze of a Kazakh girl. Arranged in four sections — “Set Out,” “Settle,” “Gaze,” and “Echo” — the series uses saturated yet gentle colors to express cultural presence and portray Kurdening as a living community where people, nature, and tradition coexist.
